A 5km is a great way to get into running. Yorkshire Cancer Research is working with Mumbler, North Yorkshire Sport and Weight Watchers to encourage people to get fit and start running whilst fundraising for a great cause.
Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. But did you know that regular running can help reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, boost your mood and keep your weight under control? Couch to 5K is a running plan developed to help absolute beginners get into running. The beginners’ running plan was developed by a novice runner, Josh Clark, who wanted to help his fifty-something mum get off the couch and start running too.
The plan involves three runs per week, with a day of rest in between, with a different schedule for each of the nine weeks but your club or group can easily adapt it to suit you. Working with North Yorkshire Sport we are training run leaders from your clubs or groups so they can help you get fit and sign people up to start running. Once you’ve built up your confidence you can enter one of our fun fundraising park runs and encourage your family and friends to sponsor you and come along and celebrate your success!
