Stage 1 – Your application
We hope you’ll find everything you need in the job advert, role profile and on our careers pages, but if you have any questions, please email our friendly People team at recruitment@ycr.org.uk or call 01423 642803 with your queries.
You can apply for our roles by submitting a CV and cover letter outlining your interest and suitability for the role. You can do this by emailing recruitment@ycr.org.uk or you can apply via any of the job boards that you see the role on.
We aim to acknowledge all applications within 7 days.
Stage 2 – Shortlisting
All applications are reviewed by our experienced in-house team to shortlist the very best people to fulfil our recruitment needs.
We aim to inform you whether you have been successful at this stage within 7 days of the advert closing date. Sometimes this can be delayed if we receive a large volume of applications, however, we will update you if this is the case.
Stage 3 – First interviews
If you are shortlisted, we will contact you to invite you to attend a first interview.
Your invitation will include information about the length of the interview, the interview panel, and the location of the interview. We will also propose a date and time for the interview.
This interview will consist of competency and situational-based questions, and we will also provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

We will inform you during the interview when to expect an answer on whether you were successful at this stage.
Stage 4 – Second interviews
If you are successful, we will contact you to invite you to attend a second interview. We will provide information about the interview panel, location and length of the interview, we will also propose a date and time.
At this stage, you may be asked to complete a task, such as a presentation, written test or in-tray exercise. Not all candidates will be asked to complete a task, some may instead be asked a variety of scenario-based questions during the interview.
We will clarify in your invitation what format you can expect and wherever possible we will give advanced warning of what your task will be. We will also provide you with the opportunity to ask any further questions that you may have.

Stage 5 – Your job offer
If you are successful, the line manager of the role will contact you via telephone to make you a verbal job offer.
This will be followed up in writing by The People Team within 7 days.
All our roles are offered subject to the satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks, these differ for every role but could include:
- Right-to-work check
- Employment references
- Professional qualification check
- Highest educational achievement check
- DBS check at a level relevant to the role
- Driving Licence check (where applicable)
You will be guided through this process by the People Team following your acceptance of our job offer.
Obtaining feedback
We apologise that we cannot provide feedback following the shortlisting stage due to the large volume of applications that we receive. We are happy to provide feedback following interview stages.
If you would like to receive feedback after an interview, please request this via our People Team by responding to your interview outcome email.
