Preventing cancer through genetic screening
Professor Ranjit Manchanda, is a distinguished researcher based at Queen Mary University of London. He is the lead investigator of an important new genetic cancer screening research trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.
One in every 20 cancers in women are caused by genetic faults that are passed down through families and are potentially preventable. However, 97% of women with these genetic faults remain unaware, so unable to make important choices that could potentially save their lives.
The trial will investigate the risks, benefits and feasibility of introducing testing for all women.
Quote from Professor Manchanda
Each time a women is found to have a high risk gene only after she has been diagnosed with cancer, I believe it represents a failure of cancer prevention. That’s why this new research is so vital and will help save more lives.
