How do I find Active Together?

By car
There is free patient parking accessed at the AWRC via Leeds Road. No permit or ticket is required.

Please use the postcode S9 3TY for sat navs. On final approach to the building some sat navs will direct you to turn directly onto Leeds Road from Worksop road however this is a one-way street, you need to turn onto Bootle Street (first left if travelling from Attercliffe/Attercliffe Road, the right turn after Leeds Road if travelling from Darnall/Darnall Road) then left at the end onto Leeds Road.

By train

The nearest train stations are Meadowhall (2.6 miles) and Sheffield Centre (2.6 miles)

By bicycle

There is a cycle store on site. Please visit reception on arrival and the team will direct you.

By tram

The local tram route is the Yellow Route. The nearest tram stops are Arena/Don Valley Stadium (0.4 miles) and Attercliffe (0.4 miles). Tram times and routes can be found on the Travel South Yorkshire website.

By bus

The AWRC is accessible by bus with the nearest stops in front of the building on Attercliffe Common. Bus times and routes can be found on the Travel South Yorkshire website.

What should I wear to my first appointment?

The Active Together staff will guide you through some simple assessments during your first appointment at the AWRC. This will include walking as far as you can for 6 minutes, so we recommend you wear comfortable  clothing and shoes. Sportswear is not required.

If it would make you feel more comfortable to bring a change of clothes and a towel, please feel free to do so. There are changing rooms and water fountains in the building.

Is the AWRC wheelchair accessible?

There is a wheelchair accessible entrance at the AWRC and lifts throughout the building.

What should I do when I get to the AWRC?

When you arrive at the building, you should report to reception. They will check you in and direct you to the waiting room.

Should I do a COVID test before my appointment? Do I have to wear a mask?

If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not come to your appointment and contact us as soon as possible to rearrange an alternative date and time.

Whilst at the AWRC, please take every opportunity to wash your hands or use hand sanitiser. You will find hand sanitiser dispensers have been set up around the building.

You do not have to wear a mask around the building.

Should I bring someone with me on the first visit?

Unless you need assistance, wherever possible, please come to your appointment alone.

Do I need to prepare for my first appointment?

Before your initial appointment, you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire. This will enable the Active Together team to better understand how they can support you.

How long will my first appointment last?

Your initial appointment will last between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours.

How much does Active Together cost?

Active Together is completely free for patients. It is fully funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.

I don’t know how I will feel during my treatment and don’t want to commit to a programme – is Active Together for me?

The programme will be adapted to work around your needs. The main aim is to support you.
