Below you will find an outline of sessions and timings for Let’s Talk about Cancer 2019. Please take special note of the breakout sessions as you’ll need to select one from Breakout Session 1 and one from Breakout Session 2 when you register to attend the event.

Please note, details are subject to change and the final programme may differ to the information below. Some breakout sessions have a limited number of places available, however we will try to offer everyone their preferred choice.

9.30am - Event and exhibition opens

Sign in on arrival to the event and enjoy free tea and coffee. Take the opportunity to visit the exhibition stands and talk to other attendees before the event begins.

10.30am - Welcome

Introduction to the day.

11.00am - Practical lifestyle advice

Practical hints and tips to help you and your family live a healthy lifestyle after a diagnosis of cancer. Topics covered include exercise, diet and smoking.

12.00pm - Lunch

Free buffet lunch served. Take this opportunity to visit the exhibition stands and talk to other attendees at your leisure.

1.00pm - Breakout Session 1

Choose one from the following four options when you book your place:

  • Managing emotional and physical side effects

Find out from healthcare professionals and patients about practical ways that may help you overcome and manage common physical side effects of cancer and cancer treatment including pain and fatigue, as well as discovering support available to help you tackle the emotional side effects.

  • Caring for carers

Hear from carers about their experiences and how you can access the best support and advice on carers services available locally.

  • Living with advanced cancer

This session will help you consider future options for you or your family members. You will find out more about supportive care for advanced cancer, including what it involves, who it is for and when and where you should access it.

  • Yoga (Full)

Unfortunately this session has now reached our maximum capacity. There are still spaces in the Yoga session as part of Breakout Session 2 but if you would like to be added to our waiting list for this session please contact events@ycr.org.uk and we will be in touch if a space becomes available. In the meantime, please select another breakout session option. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

  • Mindfulness

Learn about mindfulness techniques in this practical session. These meditative approaches may be helpful for improving your mental wellbeing.

2.00pm - Afternoon break

Short tea and coffee break before the second breakout sessions.

2.15pm - Breakout Session 2

Choose one from the following four options when you book your place:

  • Getting involved in clinical trials

Find out about the benefits of taking part in clinical trials from patients and healthcare professionals. Learn how to find a clinical trial and who to talk to in your healthcare team if you are interested in taking part in one.

  • Accessing support and advice 

Hear professionals speak about financial, work and other practical issues that might affect you following a diagnosis with cancer. Learn where you can find information and who you can speak to about financial benefits and other support available.

  • Mindfulness

Learn about mindfulness techniques in this practical session. These meditative approaches may be helpful for improving your mental wellbeing.

  • Yoga (Limited places available)

Register to take part in a practical Yoga session specifically designed for cancer patients. You may wish to come in comfortable clothes to this gently active session.

3.15pm - Final session – Let’s Talk

Join us for refreshments and a further opportunity to talk to other attendees, exhibitors and presenters from the day in an informal environment.
