Leeds United and Yorkshire Cancer Research will celebrate their ongoing partnership at Sunday’s upcoming fixture against Crystal Palace.

The match will be dedicated to the charity, which has worked with the club for the last three seasons to raise awareness of cancer symptoms and screening and highlight world-leading cancer research taking place in the city.

The charity saves lives by funding researchers and cancer experts who pioneer early diagnosis and discover new and better treatments to help more people survive cancer.

Throughout the partnership, Yorkshire Cancer Research has offered Leeds United fans affected by cancer exclusive opportunities to visit the iconic Elland Road stadium and Thorp Arch training ground, attend matches, and meet players.

At the Crystal Palace match, several young Leeds United fans will play a special role in the activities. The children, who have all been treated for cancer in Leeds, will escort players onto the pitch as mascots before enjoying the game from the stands.

Three adult supporters who have recently been treated for cancer will also attend the match as the charity’s special guests, enjoying a meet and greet with the team.

A gazebo will be set up in Bremner Square where fans can learn more about the charity’s work to save lives in Yorkshire, and face painters will be on hand to entertain young supporters.

A bucket collection by charity volunteers will also take place outside the stadium, giving the Leeds United community the opportunity to help support the pioneering research funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research to help prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer in the region.

“We’ve absolutely loved becoming part of the Leeds United family during the past three seasons. We all know that Leeds United supporters are in a league of their own and it’s been incredible to see them come together to raise thousands of pounds in support of people with cancer.

Yorkshire Cancer Research Chief Exectutive

Manager Javi Gracia, along with the coaching team and players, will show his support for Yorkshire Cancer Research by wearing the charity’s badge throughout the match and during pre- and post-match press conferences.

Dr Kathryn Scott, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, will also be a guest on the official Leeds United podcast this week, discussing the pioneering research the charity funds in the city and the difference that the support of the Leeds United community has made.

Since 2015, Yorkshire Cancer Research has funded more than £35 million of cancer research in Leeds.
