As social distancing measures are stepped up to stop the spread of Covid-19, Yorkshire Cancer Research is taking action to protect the health and wellbeing of its volunteers, supporters, employees and members of the public.
You can find our regularly updated blog about Covid-19 for people affected by cancer here.
Our high street shops
Following Government advice, the charity has taken the difficult decision to close its shops in Knaresborough and Tadcaster until further notice. The Northallerton shop, due to reopen soon following a full refurbishment, will remain closed. Sadly, we will be unable to take donations of your clothes, bric-a-brac and other goods during this time.
Local volunteer groups
We are working with our local volunteer groups across Yorkshire to help them take steps to protect their health and wellbeing and that of their family, friends and members of the public.
Local fundraising events which involve people coming together will be postponed or cancelled. We will do our best to inform as many people as possible and rearrange events where we can.
Mass participation events are currently being cancelled or postponed until later in the year. So we are busy making plans for the postponed events and the creation of new fundraising events for later this year and next.
The organisers of the following events which have supporters fundraising for Yorkshire Cancer Research have, so far, made the following changes:
- The Sheffield Half Marathon due to take place on 29th March will now be held alongside the Sheffield 10K on Sunday, 27th September 2020
- The Hull Running Festival (10k & Half Marathon) due to take place on 19th April will now be held on Sunday, 16th August 2020
- The Leeds Half Marathon due to take place on 10th May has been postponed – Date TBC
- The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride due to take place on 13th June will now be held on Saturday, 3rd October 2020
- The Leeds 10K, due to take place on 5th July, and the York 10K, due to take place on 2nd August, are currently under review.
We’ve contacted our events participants to let them know of these changes and will do our best to keep them updated with any further changes to the events calendar.
If you’ve got a place in an event that’s been postponed and the new date is unsuitable, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tour de Yorkshire 2020
The Tour de Yorkshire has been postponed and Welcome to Yorkshire, ASO and British Cycling are working with the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) to find alternative dates in the international cycling calendar for the race to take place.
As the Tour’s official charity partner, Yorkshire Cancer Research is looking forward to being part of this fantastic event in the future.
We are contacting all our volunteers who have kindly agreed to support the charity during the event to inform them of the postponement and will be in touch again once a new date is confirmed.
Our head office
The charity has the technology and infrastructure to enable employees to work effectively from home, which they have been doing since 17 March 2020.
The charity is well equipped to function in this way, and you can continue to contact us as normal.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support.
Yorkshire Cancer Research is making incredible progress towards making sure more people in Yorkshire avoid and survive cancer. We’re currently investing more than £43m in 62 projects involving 150,000 patients throughout the region.
We couldn’t achieve everything we do without the support of people across the region, and we hope you stay safe and well during this difficult time.
