A group of volunteers in Easingwold have raised more than £5,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research with a series of fundraising events.

The charity’s Galtres Volunteer Group help raise funds for world-leading research to help prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer in Yorkshire, and beyond.

Wendy Stirke, Chair of the group, said: “We’re really pleased with the amount we’ve raised so far this year. People have been really generous and we’d like to thank everyone who has attended an event or donated to the charity.”

The volunteers hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the coronation of King Charles in May, which welcomed 85 guests and raised more than £1,500.

Guests enjoyed a fashion show of clothes from Hearts Boutique of Easingwold and had the opportunity to learn more about the vital work funded by the charity.

Wendy continued: “We were all delighted with how the afternoon tea at the George Hotel went. Everyone had a lovely time and really got into the spirit of the King’s Coronation.”

The group raised a further £3,800 after receiving donations from a party hosted by one of the volunteer’s family.

Their fundraising will continue throughout the second half of the year, and the volunteers will turn their hands to baking when they hold a cake stall at the Butter Cross Easingwold Market Place on 29th July.

Wendy said: “It’s important to all of us to continue to fundraise for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

“I think the way that Leeds Lung Health Check, a mobile lung screening unit trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, has helped inform the Government’s national lung screening programme, speaks volumes about the importance of the charity’s work.”
