Pro-cyclist brothers host ‘Tanfield Tour of Yorkshire’ in support of local charities content
Cyclists from across Yorkshire joined brothers Charlie and Harry Tanfield in their ‘Tour of Yorkshire’ to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Harry said: “The whole event was a great success, and most importantly everyone seemed to have a great time and enjoy the route. I was delighted to see so many riders from all age groups come out for the day and support two very worthwhile causes.”
Both charities are close to the family’s heart. The brothers, who have supported and fundraised for Yorkshire Cancer Research in the past, lost their mum to cancer in 2019. In 2016, their father had a bicycle accident which required the services of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Harry and Charlie first became involved with Yorkshire Cancer Research during the charity’s Step Out for Yorkshire campaign, when the duo cycled 2000 miles throughout May to help fund vital cancer research.

The charity invited people to set their own exercise goal and walk, run, or cycle throughout the month, and help raise funds to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer in the region. Harry and Charlie helped participants raise £40,000 for world-leading research in Yorkshire.
Dr Kathryn Scott, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “We were thrilled that Harry and Charlie once again chose to support pioneering cancer research that will save lives in Yorkshire. Cycling is a great way to enjoy our beautiful countryside and raise funds, but exercise can also help to reduce the risk of cancer, so we were thrilled to be involved with this fantastic event.
Quote from Dr Kathryn Scott
The cycling event began in Great Broughton, Middlesborough. Those taking part could choose between 47km, 115km, and 146km distances. Each route was specially chosen to suit all abilities and showcase the best of the Yorkshire scenery.
Harry and Charlie, who both ride for UCI Continental Road team Ribble Weldtite also took part in the event themselves, meaning participants had the opportunity to cycle alongside the professionals.
Harry continued: “We made it so that people could choose whichever distance they felt they would enjoy the most. Our event was not competitive, so the main purpose was for people to have fun and challenge themselves as much as they felt comfortable.”
