Clare Holding from Dewsbury is new to cycling, having taken up the hobby when she started accompanying her husband, Vince, on weekend rides. She has been building up her cycling gradually from 15 to 40 mile routes and decided it was time to take on a new challenge in the form of the Selby Three Swans.
As with many people taking part in the Sportive, there are some sad reasons behind Clare’s motivation for riding. Her father-in-law, Harvey, passed away in January this year following a long battle with leukaemia. As Harvey was a retired bus driver from Selby, Clare felt this local event was a very fitting tribute. Yorkshire Cancer Research is dedicated to improving cancer outcomes in Yorkshire by raising awareness of cancer and how to prevent it, promoting screening programmes and funding innovative research, from diagnosis to end-of-life care. The charity aims to ensure more people in Yorkshire survive cancer.
Excitingly for Clare, her employer, Provident Financial Group, will match up to £500 of her fundraising. What a great motivation! If you want to see just how much Clare can raise, visit her Everyday Hero page here.
