Volunteer group’s quiz night raises £800 for Yorkshire Cancer Research

A volunteer group’s quiz night has raised more than £800 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The Ilkley Volunteer Group organised the ‘pie ‘n’ peas quiz night’ to help fund vital research in the region.

Catherine Bradley, chair of the group, said: “I wanted to put on an event for supporters of all ages and genders. Everyone loves a bit of pie and peas, as well as a good quiz, so it turned out to be a really popular social event.”

The quiz, held at Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club, covered a wide range of general knowledge, with rounds that covered subjects such as Yorkshire landmarks, famous dogs, TV through the decades and memorable films.

Catherine continued: “The event was a huge success and everyone said they can’t wait to come back and do it again. We’re planning to make it an annual event. Next year I hope it’ll be bigger and better.”

The quiz was attended by 57 people and hosted by Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Andy Wilson.

Andy said: “It was a real joy to host this quiz. The venue was perfect and the group did a great job of making sure everyone was well-fed and had a fun evening. I’m looking forward to next year already.”

Catherine added: “Andy did a superb job. The feedback from everyone was that it was an absolutely fantastic quiz.”

The money raised is part of a phenomenal £454,879 raised by the Ilkley volunteers since they first formed in June 1976.
