The new shop is expected to raise £150,000 each year, helping the charity to bring world-leading research and pioneering services to people with cancer in Yorkshire.

Each pound raised in the Ilkley shop will fund life-saving research right here in Yorkshire. Being able to come home each day knowing I’ve made a positive difference to people with cancer is a dream come true. I really look forward to connecting with the local community of Ilkley.”

Yorkshire Cancer Research could not do its vital work without the commitment of hundreds of volunteers across the region. Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the charity’s mission to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in Yorkshire and beyond.

Ilkley has a fantastic community with skills that are invaluable to Yorkshire Cancer Research. Volunteering makes you part of something bigger, connects you with local people and helps the charity raise important funds for life-changing work.”

Two more charity shops - in Selby and Heckmondwike - are also expected to open their doors over the coming weeks, supporting the charity’s target to have a charity shop on every high street in Yorkshire. These new openings bring the charity’s total number of shops to 15, up from seven at the beginning of 2024.

The charity is pleased to open a new shop in Ilkley at the start of a very special year – the charity’s 100-year anniversary. Since the opening of the first Yorkshire Cancer Research shop in Northallerton in 1965, people in Yorkshire have shopped, donated and volunteered to raise crucial funds to support life-saving cancer research and services. Thanks to them, the charity can continue to bring pioneering discoveries and cancer experts to Yorkshire, so more lives can be saved in the region and beyond.”
