Join the Research Advisory Panel content
Your life experience can help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
We are looking for people to help us make life-changing decisions in the future of our research projects. Your input will help determine which projects we fund and the impact these studies have on the lives of people in Yorkshire.
What is the Research Advisory Panel?
As a charity, we have to decide what research to fund by considering how it will meet our aim of saving lives in Yorkshire. The Research Advisory Panel performs this crucial role.
Who can be involved?
The panel is made up of researchers, clinicians and anyone with lived experience of cancer. This includes people who have or have had cancer, carers, friends and family and other interested members of the public.
No specialist knowledge is required but your life experience is essential to ensure the projects we fund are sensitive to, and reflective of, people at risk of or living with cancer.

What do members do?
You would work with other panel members and the scientific expert members to review the funding applications we receive and help us make the funding decisions.
No qualifications or previous experience is needed, we provide full support and training. It is your lived experience of cancer that makes your unique insights and perspective so important in deciding what research we should fund.
The work involved in reviewing applications received in our annual funding round is expected to take a few days of your time, in addition to attending a one day meeting every year, held at our Harrogate office. We will cover your travel and accommodation expenses.
What do members gain from being part of the panel?
- Contributing to a cause you have been impacted by
- Meeting new people with shared values
- Developing or enhancing skills
- Increasing understanding of research and research processes
- Knowing that by helping make the best funding decisions, more people will benefit in the future.
