Volunteer at the Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre

The Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre at Hornbeam Park in Harrogate opened in 2023, and contains a boutique-style shop, cafe and cancer rehabilitation service. Every member of the volunteer team at the new centre makes a difference, coming together to help save lives in Yorkshire.

Volunteer at the Harrogate shop

The shop is located on Oxford Street in the heart of Harrogate, and consists of two floors of high-quality preloved goods. You can be part of small team making a big difference to people with cancer in Yorkshire - whether you like helping customers or organising merchandise, your skills will help fund life-saving research.

My day as a volunteer

I had free time after retiring, and then I saw something on Facebook announcing the opening of the shop and applied to volunteer. 

It’s great fun, I really enjoy it. I speak to all sorts of people and customers are lovely and often want to have a chat."

Retail Assistant - Harrogate shop

Interested in welcoming shop customers or helping out behind-the-scenes? The Retail Assistant helps make the Harrogate shop a great place to visit, displaying merchandise or organising donated goods

E-commerce Assistant - Hornbeam Park

Interested in online shopping and digital retail? The E-commerce Assistant helps with listing donated goods for sale and managing e-auctions across various online shops (such as eBay, Depop).

Donations Assistant - Hornbeam Park

Interested in the operations of a donation centre? The Donations Assistant helps manage donated stock at the charity’s centre on Hornbeam Park in Harrogate, including organising goods for sale and distributing items out to the shops.

Warehouse Assistant - Hornbeam Park

Interested in the operations of a donation centre? The Warehouse Assistant helps to run the charity’s centre on Hornbeam Park in Harrogate, including loading/unloading the van, sorting deliveries and light maintenance.

Handyperson

Are you a practical individual with DIY skills? If you are a joiner, electrician, plumber or decorator looking to volunteer, you can share your skills helping to maintain and look after the charity’s shops and buildings at a time that suits you.

Van driver's assistant

Are you good at navigating and logistics? If you are relatively fit, your time and skills could help us to load and unload the van and to be an extra pair of eyes to help navigate and park the van whilst collecting and distributing stock between our Donation Centre in Harrogate and our shops throughout Yorkshire.

Electrical item tester

Are you good with electrical items, or do you have an interest in electrical gadgets? Your skills could help test donated electrical items, ensuring they are fully functional and safe for sale in the shops throughout the region.
